The Kunbis

The oldest community of Goa is kunbi community. The kunbi community is an agrarian community there also known as kunbi, kulmis, kulwadi etc.
The Gawdas and velpis belong to the same race as that of kunbis and that race is proto-Australoid
(Munbary) kunbi were the major branch or (stock) of the community to which Gawdas and velips belonged the only difference was that these community followed different rituals. These community under went number of changes in due course of time with the arrival of portugues these communities were converted into Christianity specially in Tiswadi and salcetta still they are countioning with their tradition. They set up the village community called as Goakari they were the owner of the land which they tilled cultivated rice (paddy).
